Creating the Future for Museums

Why Museums Matter

Our museums contribute to our knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of our world, – of our heritage, of our nature, of the contributions of our different cultures, of our creative and cultural evolution, of our environment, and of our experience of life. Museums contribute to our knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the creative experience of life.

How Museums Contribute

Museums contribute to our knowledge, understanding, and appreciation and to our creative and cultural evolution as individuals and communities by creating experiences that excite new insights, new ideas, new imagination, new inspiration, new interests, and new initiatives and change the way we see, think, and feel about our experience of the world and what we choose to do and how we choose to live.

Museums contextualize the experience of art, of artifact, of culture, of events which contributed to the creative and cultural evolution of our world and which could contribute to our creative and cultural evolution as individuals, as cultures, and as communities, and to our ability to create a better future for ourselves and our worlds.

Exploring the contribution of museums

Where do museums fit in the world of other institutions and enterprises, in the world of digital media and in the world of learning what we know about how things are, how we are, and how things work? How valuable are our museums as learning resources? What can we do to increase the contribution of these learning resources?

Increasing the contribution of museums

How do we increase the contribution of our museums with their resources, their research, and their expertise in contextualizing our experience, in creating experiences, and in creating opportunities to experience? What do museums contribute that the experience of the artifact and the art alone can not?

How do we create context for the experience museums create and the connections and creative contributions they make to our knowledge, understanding, our appreciation of our evolution, of the evolution of our world, and of our creative possibilities for our future?

How do we increase the size of the community benefiting from the experience and contributions of our museums? How do we increase the contribution of our museums as learning resources to our community and our ability to create community around our common and creative interests?

Exploring future for our museums

Creating a future begins by imagining a future. We are more able to imagine a future if we are more connected to how we got here and to what we have learned from our creative journey so far.

We create our future with ideas. Creative ideas about what we can do which we think will contribute to creating the future we imagine. We create a future for our community with ideas and interests we have in common which we can create community and creative enterprise around.

Museums could be seen as being at the crossroads. We could see ourselves at the crossroads. We could see the value and importance of the creative and cultural resources, experiences, and contributions of our community of museums to creating our future.

Creating the future for our museums around our common interest in increasing their contribution to our communities, and to our community, will contribute to creating a better future for our community and our world.

Why create the future with our museums

I see museums as creative resources with enormous potential to create immersive learning experiences and excite creative connections that change how we see, think, and feel about our experience of our world and our experience of life.

I see opportunities for our creative community to excite interest and investment in increasing the contribution of our museums to our knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of our world, increasing the size of the communities benefiting from their contribution, and increasing the contribution of our communities to creating better possibilities for our future.

How valuable are our museum resources? What can we do to increase the contribution and value of our resources?
